Two people died and another was left injured on Tuesday night, when a trigger-happy Uganda People’s Defence Force, UPDF, soldier shot them.

Private Author Nuwamanya attached to 407 battalion in Bondo reportedly shot the deceased and the injured, after a bar brawl in the night, before killing himself using the same gun.

The incident happened at Bondo trading center in Vura County Arua district.

Fourth Infantry Division Spokesperson Maj Telesphor Turyamumanya told the  Northern Era that reports they have obtained indicate that after picking a quarrel with an unidentified person, the soldier rushed to the barracks and picked his gun, which he used to shoot his victims.

Maj Turyamumanya said the motive behind the dead soldier’s actions are still unclear; as security personnel are still conducting investigations.

Identities of the deceased could not be readily established by press time.

This isn’t the first time a trigger-happy soldier has shot people to death, or injured them.

He was charged in the army court martial and sentenced to 43 years in jail. In May last year, another soldier shot dead five people and injured seven others in Karenga Trading Centre in Kaabong District before committing suicide.
