ob Description ORGANIZATION NAME: Global Health Network (U) POSITION LOCATION: Gulu, Uganda Position Overview The Communications and Fundraising Officer is placed in Global Health Network (U) (GHNU) secretariat and serves as a critical liaison between the Program Manager, the Program Advisor, and the Executive Director in coordination of fundraising processes, including development of documents to position GHNU in a creative and compelling way and deliver information and content that inspires high-value donors to support GHNU programs. The Communications and Fundraising Officer will work primarily in GHNU secretariat with frequent travel/visits to the field to provide support and advice where necessary. Most importantly, this position will give the fellow a global view of fundraising, supporting program design, monitoring implementation processes and designing fundable proposals for the organization in various sections. ELIGIBLE CITIZENSHIP: USA POSITION CODE: G07-Int JOB FUNCTION: Communications, Development / Fundraising / Grant-Writing, Partnership Development ISSUE AREA: Maternal and Child Health, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Responsibilities Supporting high-value fundraising: Deliver inspiring and accurate information about maternal and child health for use in fundraising applications and reports for a variety of audiences including: charitable trusts, major donors, high-value community fundraisers and corporate partners. You will also present overviews of GHNU programs directly to funders in an enthusiastic, warm and engaging manner to secure funding partnerships Delivering, engaging in effective communications: Work with other members of the team to deliver engaging content that drives brand awareness and understanding, and activates support and influence from a range of external stakeholders including prospective and existing supporters, the public, opinion formers and parliamentarians, the media and the local community Work with the GHNU team to raise the profile of GHNU portfolio and outcomes, by advising on media releases, and helping to respond to queries from journalists and breaking news on MCH. Act as GHNU media spokesperson, including out-of-hours on occasion where necessary to ensure the charity can provide an effective reactive press office function Training for staff and key stakeholders: Provide training and other presentations to maximize understanding and engagement with GHNU at events including induction sessions for staff and key external stakeholders Information provision: Work with program manager, program adviser and Executive director to respond to queries about GHNU operation from the public Strengthening scientific relationships: Build effective relationships with people around the world to maximize opportunities for communicating their work Update and maintain workflows and procedures Maintain good relationships with GHNU stakeholders Represent GHNU at events, meetings and conferences as necessary Perform any other roles and responsibility that may be assigned by the supervisor Skills and Experience Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field* Minimum of two years of experience in communications and/or fundraising* Demonstrated experience fundraising for non-governmental organizations* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders from various institutional arrangements, including local NGOs, INGOs, faith-based organizations, political and/or government institutions* Experience using academic search engines Experience in capacity building and training of local staff Ability to research, interpret and present scientific information in accessible and meaningful ways Proven ability to work independently and collaborate in a cross-cultural context with diverse staff and partners Committed and enthusiastic for GHN aims and mission Confident and organized self-starter who can handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously, take initiative and is able to respond rapidly and effectively to new opportunities.
