Acoli Province Ready for Drum Tournament

The Acoli Province Team is set to compete in the fufa Drum Football Tournament which today, Saturday February 24th 2018, in until October 2018.

The Drum tournament, is another football competition that was launched by fufa president Eng. Moses Magogo on October 18, 2017, following the resolution of the 93rd fufa Ordinary General Assembly, and the 13th fufa Executive committee.

The tournament is aimed at taking the game to the masses based on provinces in Uganda.

The chairman Gulu District Football Association, Dr. Constantine Loum told journalists yesterday at Northern Uganda Media Club, NUMEC, that the tournament aims at reviving the lost home talents, focus and support.

“We are not just representing our province in this tournament… we are proving to the entire world that we have the talents,” Loum said.

The head coach of the Acoli Province Team, Geoffrey Akena, revealed that six coaches and 22 players from across the country in Gulu , and will today head to Lango Sports Ground in Lira, where the tournament will take place.

Acholi Province Team expects 30 players in their camp, before their first match on Sunday 25th, 2018.

Amongst the key players already at in Gulu are; Onekalit from Ndejjie University, Mwaka Stephen Captain Black Angels, Jemba KCCA Captain among others.

“Though some players like Tito Okello are out of the country for trial abroad, we are anticipating their availability against Buganda Province in March,” Akena said.

“…we have the best technical football coaches in the team, with critical minds and skills to win this 100 millions shillings,” Akena said.

“… the team already has one point, so we are just fetching two left from the pitch says,” he added.

The Treasurer of Gulu District Football Association, Samuel Ojok Cornelius, revealed that fufa has given the team 1 million shillings for their transport to Lira.

Ojok however said the each game would require to spend 9 million shillings, and shs 58 million till the end of the Tournament.

He urged the local leaders and community to give financial support to the team, for a better performance.

Some of the businesses that have given support include; Kakanyero  Hotel-Gulu 4 rooms, Wall Ville, Free Zone Hotel-Gulu, Golden Peace Hotel- Gulu 4 rooms and swimming for the players, Binen Restaurant- Gulu 3 days of feeding, Coca-Cola-Gulu waters, among others.
